Vice Commander’s Notes
February 2026
Fellow Legionnaires and Patriots.
With the holidays now behind us and tax season upon us, we wish you and your families a blessed, healthy, and prosperous year ahead. As we move further into the new year, I want to share a brief update on where we stand as a Post and where we are headed.
Membership and Participation:
I am pleased to report that we continue to welcome new members, maintaining the modest but steady growth we experienced during the last quarter through new enrollments and transfers from other Posts. This continued interest in our Post is encouraging and appreciated.
At the same time, I would be remiss if I did not express some disappointment in the limited participation at our monthly meetings and social events. While a small core group continues to carry much of the load, we recognize that we have not been as proactive as we could be in offering a broader range of activities beyond membership meetings. That is changing, and progress is being made.
If you take a moment to periodically check the calendar here on our website, you will see upcoming events planned well in advance. With that notice, I hope you will consider joining us, particularly for our social gatherings. Some events will be pay-as-you-go, as our available funds are primarily dedicated to supporting veterans in need, youth programs, and community initiatives.
We will also be hosting cookouts where attendees can bring their own adult beverages and a side dish, while the Post provides soft drinks, hot dogs, hamburgers, or barbecue along with condiments. Many of these events will include spouses, guests and children but will require RSVPs so we can accurately plan and avoid unnecessary expenses.
Youth Programs and Fundraising Efforts:
On a lighter and more exciting note, our new (this) website launched in late November provides an easy way to stay informed and choose how you would like to participate. As mentioned in my first note, we are in the midst of a focused fundraising push to support sending boys to Texas Boys State, and in partnership with the Post 379 Ladies Auxiliary, expand our support for Texas Girls State.
This year marks our first effort to sponsor young ladies from Carroll High School for Texas Girls State. All funds for both programs must be paid by May 1. Currently, we have 15 Texas Boys State applicants and 8 Texas Girls State applicants. The exact number we can sponsor depends on our funds at the end of April.
Our mid-December gun raffle generated helpful revenue, and we are continuing to build momentum with our ongoing Car Raffle, which concludes on May 3. Information on how to support the raffle—or how to make a direct donation—is provided below. Any contribution, no matter the amount, directly supports these vital youth programs as well as our continued work for veterans. We are also looking for help selling Car Raffle Tickets at the Texas Gun Experience Grapevine, or at Texas Road House on HWY 635. See calendar for details.
Thank you for your continued support of the Post, our mission, and one another. Together, we can strengthen our presence, expand our impact, and ensure these important programs thrive in the year ahead.
We also need volunteers. Check our calendar and volunteer pages for ways to get involved. Remember, the camaraderie we cherished in service is still here—waiting for you. Life gets busy, but our mission remains: We take care of our own. If we don’t, who will? If not now, when?
Let’s make this a year of action. Join us, support our causes, and help us build a stronger community for veterans and youth alike.
