Sharing Stories of Service and Leadership

1st Vice Commander Rick Groesch of American Legion Post 14: Rick Groesch is a seasoned and wise leader with many years of involvement in veterans’ issues and local community programs. In this conversation, he will offer his candid thoughts on the experience of serving in uniform and in civilian life, while spotlighting how discipline, teamwork, and integrity are as critical off the field as on it.

Students can hear from those who share these values and learn how they can follow in their footsteps in education, civic engagement, or career development.

What Students Can Expect

Open panel discussion between students and veterans. Topics will include:

  • Teaching points: What you learned in the military and how it translates to everyday leadership.
  • The journey from soldier to civilian.
  • How young people can make a purposeful contribution to their community.
  • How respect, responsibility, and perseverance are key to reaching goals.

This event gives our students the opportunity to engage with authentic stories of courage, hope, and love, how those in their communities bring forth resilience, and come together as a community.

Strengthening the Mission of Post 14

The Southlake-based American Legion Post 14 remains committed to promoting patriotism, mentoring youth, and supporting those who have served. When it does, their work will be a continuation of what Post 14 has always done: “Veterans Strengthening America,” keeping the next generation attached to and thankful for what is sacrificed for freedom.

A Legacy of Service and Inspiration

Rick Groesch, vice commander attending Carroll High School, is more than a speech; it’s the chance to connect the generations. His message is an enduring reminder that service doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off; through his efforts, he has expressed what it means to continue serving no matter where you are in life.

This demonstration of togetherness will be a moment for the City of Southlake and the surrounding area to come together in support, education, and revelation provided by those who serve.
