Heroes Among Us: A Night of Honor, Sacrifice, and Community Support
Southlake and Trophy Club Unite to Celebrate the Heroes Among Us
On Friday, February 6, 2026, gracious guests came together at the posh The Westin Southlake for Heroes Among Us, the Annual Gala benefiting The American Legion PFC Ruth E. Warlick Texas Post 14.
This star-studded event, introduced by the Southlake Foundation, was a moving tribute to the valour, dedication, and fortitude of our heroes, the veterans this nation calls. At the gala, we were reminded that our heroes are not only in the distant past but also our neighbors and colleagues who walk among us every day.
A Community United in Gratitude
Emcee Alec Knight anchored the evening with deft skill and grace.
The Southlake Foundation President and Founder, Khush Rao, spoke with great passion about the foundation’s tradition of supporting causes that make a positive impact, from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to Special Olympics, and why honouring veterans at this year’s gala was timely and significant.
Local leadership also strongly supported it.
Both Mayor Shawn McCaskill of Southlake and Mayor Jeannette Tiffany of Trophy Club addressed the solemn crowd, underscoring their cities’ continued dedication to remembering and supporting the men and women who have sacrificed their lives in service to our country. They were a symbol of the bridge between civic and veteran leadership.

Honoring the Legacy of Service
Jack W. Baxter, Post 14 Commander, shared the proud history of the American Legion and of Post 14’s work today. He discussed how the organization continues to support veterans’ rights, community programs, and camaraderie among those who once served.
His message was to remind attendees that when you support Post 14, you’re supporting local veterans and their families, ensuring service never ends.
A Gold Star Father’s Courage
Among the highlights of the evening was Chet Ingram, a Gold Star father who spoke about his son, Nathan Gage Ingram, who was serving as a Petty Officer in Navy SEAL Team 3.
Without concern for his own safety, Petty Officer Ingram plunged into the water in a valiant effort to rescue a fellow crewmember and gallantly gave his life in the cause of his country. His actions epitomized Courage and Brotherhood.
As mentioned during the tribute:
“Petty Officer Ingram’s brave actions exemplify what it means to be a selfless and courageous Texas hero. He endangered his own life (and lost it) on the behalf of a teammate.”
The crowd remained standing in respect for both a fallen hero and the fortitude of his family, who still stand strong to carry on his name.
A Living Legend: Corporal Don Graves (USMC ret)
The gala was also attended by Don Graves, a World War II veteran and survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima.
Mr. Graves had the crowd in the palm of his hand as he presented several patriotic songs, including God Bless America and America the Beautiful. His voice was a vessel for decades of history, resilience, and pride. It was a special and poignant honor to be granted such a personal glimpse into the spirit of one who gave so much during his lifetime, as part of the Greatest Generation.
Generosity in Action
A spirit of generosity characterized the evening.
ITServe Alliance made a generous $2,000 contribution, putting real company resources behind local veterans.
Guests enthusiastically participated in the silent auction, which featured:
- Premium alcohol packages
- Restaurant experiences
- Vacation rentals
- Curated gift bundles, unique experiences
The evening was topped off with an amazing game of Bingo full of prizes and laughter – a perfect close to an evening filled with remembrance and thanks.
Heroes Truly Among Us
Heroes Among Us was about more than a gala. It was a testament to the power of a community that will not forget those who paid so much for our freedom.
From our mayors stepping up to lead locally, an emotional testimony from a Gold Star father, the voice of a World War II veteran, and donors and sponsors who generously helped make this a special night, Southlake (and surrounding communities) is truly at its finest.
The American Legion PFC Ruth E. Warlick Texas Post 14 would like to offer our gratitude to the Southlake Foundation, Khush Rao, ITServe Alliance, Shawn McCaskill, Mayor of Southlake, Jeannette Tiffany, Mayor of Trophy Club, Don Graves- sponsors and volunteers with the Southlake Foundation, and attendees for making this night a reality!
Real heroes are among us, and collectively we celebrate, remember, and stand by their side.
